Why is a domestic violence agency producing a book
about MEN We LOVE?
In the effort to end domestic violence, we have long
heard that men are the problem. It’s true--some
men cause problems. But it’s also true that
most of us have good experiences of men in our lives.
Men are our partners, children, mentors, inspirations,
role models, advisors, soul mates and friends. These
are the men we love; and we know them to be part of
the solution, not the problem.
At the Alma Center we believe that our efforts to
end domestic violence are made even more powerful
by spreading a positive message of hope. Clearly it’s
important to recognize the problems that exist, and
we do, but we believe it’s just as important
to recognize that life can be, and is, good. The Men
We Love project is our effort to celebrate the positive
influence men have in our families, personal lives
and community.
How is the $375 donation used?
A significant portion of the photography, graphic
design and production costs for Men We Love are donated.
Approximately $200 of each dedication page purchase
is used to cover out of pocket production expenses.
The remaining money, $175 will be used to fund educational
programming at the Alma Center. The price for the
dedication page is set at a standard fee for a portrait
photo session with an expert photographer in the Milwaukee
area. In this case, you are getting not only the photo
shoot, but also a truly unique and everlasting keepsake.
What’s not to love? You get a beautiful gift
and the cost is a donation to a much needed agency.
Can there be more than one man per photo?
Nope, only one man per photo/dedication page.
One of the goals of this project is to highlight the
many different ways that men are important to our
lives. We think this goal is best achieved though
the collection of unique personalized stories about
individual men. The distinct aspects of each story
help us to see and understand the special and magnificent
impact of a single individual in the lives of those
who love him.
Also, Men We Love is a high quality art photography
book. The book concept was developed with extensive
input from the graphic designer and photographer.
These individuals donate a significant portion of
their time and services to the project. In return
for their contribution, we are honoring their artistic
direction for the project. Their vision is also one
man per photo.
Can more than 1 person dedicate?
Absolutely!
Be creative! Spread the love and divide the cost with
family, teammates, co-workers etc.
Can the book be a surprise?
We won’t tell him!
If you are planning to keep the book a surprise, please
know that the photographer will not discuss production
of the book during the photo shoot. He will simply
indicate that you have commissioned a portrait photo
of the man for some reason unknown to him.
It is then up to you to keep the secret until the
book is released!
Can I see the photograph before the book is released?
If we let you, then we will have to let everybody!
We do have a deadline to uphold!
The photographer is responsible for choosing a photo that shows the uniqueness
and beauty of each man.
Can I get copies of the photograph?
Of course you can!
Additional prints of the portraits will be available
for purchase.
What are my payment options?
We accept MasterCard and Visa online, via fax or phone.
You may also pay by check. The check must be submitted
within seven days of reserving the page.
What is the Night of Love Dinner & Book Release party?
The Night of Love is a Valentine’s Day event you won’t want to miss --great company, music, food, fun, and a one-of-a-kind life memory for the men featured in Men We Love.
To celebrate the big event, we wrap the newly released Men We Love books in red paper and shiny bows and place one at the seat of each man featured. Hanging over his seat is the hip and coveted, “I’m Loved” t-shirt. If you’ve kept the book a surprise, you can imagine what a tremendous surprise it is! And, even if he “knows,” (he may have already forgotten?), he can’t possibly know what an extraordinary Valentine’s day gift you have given him until he experiences it.
The dedication package includes one ticket to the Night of Love Dinner & Book Release Party. You can spread the love by filling a table full of family & friends
There’s no need to fret over Valentine’s gifts when you’re coming to the Night of Love. Each year, we have a wide array of fantastic items waiting for you at the Silent Auction.
